Egypt, Qatar agree recent Gaza truce talks made "some headway"
CAIRO, July 25 (KUNA) -- Egypt and Qatar reaffirmed resolve to continue their joint mediation in the ceasefire-hostage release talks between the Palestinian movement Hamas and the Israeli occupation authorities.
"The suspension of the talks is normal due to the need of consultations in the context of the highly-complicated negotiations," reads a joint statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Friday.
"The last round of the dialogue, hosted by Doha, Qatar, has made some headway towards putting an end to the war in Gaza Strip," it affirmed.
Egypt and Qatar will continue working tirelessly with the United States for reaching a deal that could ensure ending the humanitarian disaster in the Strip, protecting the civilian population and exchanging the hostages, according to the statement.
The statement cautioned the mass media against circulating groundless rumors or unauthenticated reports that could negatively affect the course of the peace talks.
It advised, instead, shedding light on the unprecedented humanitarian disaster in Gaza. (end) asm.gb
