Bahrain FM: US decision on Jerusalem threat to peace process

MANAMA, Dec 9 (KUNA) -- The US President Donald Trump's decision recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital threatens regional peace and halts all initiatives and negotiations for a final solution in Middle East, Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad said Saturday.
The US move is considered an obvious infraction of the international resolutions that reiterate the fixed rights of the Palestinian people, and the fact that East Jerusalem is an occupied land that has to be freed, the minister told the 13th Manama Dialogue.
However, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad voiced confidence in the US commitment to the region's security and stability.
He stressed the necessity of maintaining Washington's role to conclude the two-state solution, in line with the relevant resolutions of the international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The region's security and stability face numerous grave challenges, notably the spread of "terrorists," the minister told the key security event.
In the meantime, the Bahraini chief diplomat highlighted Saudi Arabia's leading role for providing, and dispatching aid to afflicted areas through the King Salman Centre for Humanitarian Aid and Relief.
For the minister, strategic coalition with the US and the UK is necessary to guarantee security in the Gulf which is vital for the international security and peace.
Respect to countries' sovereignty and commitment to non-interference in their internal affairs are key steps to restore security and stability to the region, he said.
Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad reiterated Bahrain's support to the efforts of the Iraqi Government liberating the areas previously seized by the so-called Islamic State (IS).
The three-day 13th Manama Dialogue that wraps up sessions on Sunday, has brought together a huge number of security and military experts and academics. (Pick up previous) hmd.msa
