OIC, Palestinians call on Britian to prevent Balfour Declaration celebration

JEDDAH, Nov 1 (KUNA) -- The British government and the international community should fully recognize Palestine as an independent state, said a statement by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Wednesday.
On the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration on November 2, the OIC said that this heinous act, which formed a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine, had resulted in various acts of injustice.
The OIC condemned the UK government's plans to commemorate the memory of this act, saying that the declaration had deprived the true owners the Palestinians from living on their land.
The OIC said it will continue to support the Palestinian bid for an independent state within the 1967 borders and it will backup Jerusalem as the future capital of the independent nation.
On its part, members of the Palestinian national council in Amman, Jordan, condemned those who took part in what they deemed as a "crime" against their people.
The council members called on the British government to take the necessary steps to prevent the commemoration of the Balfour Declaration, saying any sort of celebrations would be a slap to good values shared by human beings.
The Palestinians have the right to protest and defense themselves against the crimes committed by the so-called state of Israel which the declaration played a part in establishing, said the council.
Similarly, Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative at the Arab League said that since the creation of the declaration in November of 1917, some 12 million Palestinian people have been suffering due to Israeli unjust act.
Palestine and the Arab League called on the world to prevent any sort of celebration of the Balfour Declaration, saying that those who are in favor of the commemorating declaration should be ashamed of themselves. (end) ab.mfm.nh.gta
