Former US security official says FBI delayed notification of Russian hack

WASHINGTON, June 21 (KUNA) -- Former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson told the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday that there was a delay between the time it took the FBI to learn about the Russian cyber-attack at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) and the time for him to learn about the findings.
When asked if he thought there was any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, Johnson replied, "no." In 2016 the Russian government, at the direction of [Russian President] Vladimir Putin himself, orchestrated cyberattacks on our nation for the purpose of influencing our election -- plain and simple.
The key question for the president and Congress is: What are we going to do to protect the American people and their democracy from this kind of thing in the future ?," said Johnson. (end) ak.mb
