GAZA, Dec 18 (KUNA) -- Israeli naval forces arrested two Palestinian
fishermen off Gaza coast on Sunday.
Chief of the fishermen syndicate Nizar Ayyash told Kuwait News Agency that
Israeli naval vessels intercepted the two fishermen while fishing in the
permitted zone off Gaza's coast.
The fishermen are from one family, "Murad Family," Ayyash said, stressing
that the Israeli naval forces confiscated their boat as well as their
equipment, and headed to an unknown place.
Ayyash said the Israeli occupation was fully responsible for the lives of
the fishermen, calling on human rights organizations, particularly the
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and called for an immediate
interference for their release as well as their equipment and their boat.
Palestinian fishermen in the Gaza Strip are subjected almost daily to
Israeli attacks and harassment, preventing them from fishing of more than
two-mile distance.
the increase of Israeli harrasement towards the fishermen increased lately,
he said.
Ayyash stressed out that seven Palestinian fishermen have been killed, as
dozens wounded, in addition to the arrest of nearly 200 others since the
summer of 2007.
Israeli Naval forces, which usually sails off the coast of Gaza, has
stationed a large buoys at a distance of three nautical miles, which indicates
that Palestinian fishermen are porhibited to exceed them. (end)
