Kuwaiti celebs laud HH Amir''s address at parliament

KUWAIT, Oct 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti media and public celebrities hailed on Wednesday the speech delivered by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the National Assembly (parliament) yesterday.
In separate statements to KUNA they said HH the Amir's call for the legislative and executive authorities to avoid dissension and work together for the national interests of the country charted a roadmap for protecting the national unity.
"No doubt HH the Amir who feels the concerns of the nation and is able to tackle all challenges and guide the nation to safety," said Walid Al-Nesf, editor-in-chief of Al-Qabas daily.
"HH the Amir charted a roadmap for the new generations when he stated opposition to any infringement on the national unity and interests of Kuwait," Al-Nesf said, noting that the young generation is most vulnerable to any changes or crucial decisions in the society.
Al-Nesf also recalled HH the Amir's call for mass media to shoulder their moral, national and social responsibilities and avoid sensation and exaggeration while handling sensitive issues.
Meanwhile, Youssof Khaled Al-Marzouqi, chief editor of Al-Anba', said HH the Amir's address expressed the concerns being felt by the Kuwaiti man in the street due to the simmering tensions between the legislative and executive authorities.
"The tensions usually result from unfounded accusations by some law-makers against their colleagues or cabinet members," he opined, noting that such tradition goes counter to the teaching of holy Islam, law provisions and the genuine traditions of Kuwaiti society.
"In his remarks on the state development plan, HH the Amir stressed that it's unlikely to realize the objectives of the plan and turn Kuwait into a regional financial and commercial hub under the current tensions between the lawmakers and executives," Al-Marzouqi added.
On his part, Abdulhamid Khalaf Al-Da'san, chief editor of Alam Al-Youm, said it was clear that HH the Amir shares the concerns of the Kuwaiti people, quoting HH the Amir as saying to the people: "Your concern is mine too." "HH the Amir has sent a clear message to the local mass media some of which favor sensation over objectivity, thus hampering the efforts aiming to realize the instructions of HH the Amir," Al-Da'san explained.
Secretary-General of the Arab Media Forum (AMF) Madhi Al-Khamis said HH the Amir's comments serve as beacon guiding the national joint action in the coming stage.
"HH the Amir said he is looking forward to seeing the media playing their genuine role for serving the interests of the nation instead of adding to the nation's problems," Al-Khamis noted.
For her part, Dr. Moudhi Al-Hmoud, former minister of education and higher education, and currently a professor at Kuwait University, said HH the Amir reminded the media of their national role while abiding by the democratic approach in dealing with all local and regional issues.
"HH the Amir commended the role of media in strengthening the public confidence in the state institutions. He also reminded the people of their responsibility in electing their representatives who should avoid misusing the trust of voters and never seek dirty money," Al-Hmoud added.
