will take part in the fifth session of the Committee on the Elimination of
Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) of the United Nations at the UN
headquarters in Geneva from October 13-21.
The Committee quoted its Chairperson Sheikha Latifa Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah
as saying that the participation is a response to an invitation extended by
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss Kuwait's third and fourth reports
of the (Convention on Elimination of all Discrimination against Women).
The statement stressed the importance of the meeting, which comes amid
increasing international efforts to eliminate discrimination against women and
work to achieve gender equality, explaining that the meeting will discuss the
efforts made by Member States in order to reduce discrimination against women
and follow-up obligations of States to implement the provisions of the
International Convention relating to this matter.
The United Nations in July 2010 established a body for gender equality and
women's empowerment in order to improve the status of women in all areas.
The statement said that the State of Kuwait contributes to all
international efforts to strengthen the role of women in society and to
achieve gender equality and combat discrimination against women.
It added that Kuwait was one of the first countries in the world that
welcomed the establishment of the United Nations' body for gender equality and
support its activities for the advancement of the position of women in all
areas.
It said that Kuwait is looking forward to cooperating with the United
Nations and all active international organizations for the advancement of
women and enable them to play their due role as a true partner in the
