BAGHDAD, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- Some 26 Iraqis were killed and another 70 were
injured, including soldiers, in armed and explosive attacks across western and
southern Iraq on Wednesday.
Sixteen Iraqis, nine of them soldiers, were killed and 46 were injured in a
bomb-strapped car blast that targeted a roadside restaurant south of Baghdad
in the Babel Province, a local police source told KUNA.
A US military vehicle which was travelling to a military base located in
the province, also witnessed a separate improvised explosive attack which
damaged the vehicle partially.
The explosion also led to material losses to the restaurant and surrounding
buildings.
Meanwhile, two separate explosions in the neighbourhood of Al-Ghazaliya,
close to Baghdad occurred, one of which seriously injured a former senior
military officer.
Armed gunmen attacked a police checkpoint in northern Baghdad, killing two
policemen and injuring another.
In Kirkuk a civilian was killed by gunmen, while a man was killed in Anbar
Province in an attack which also injured his wife and his sister.
In western Iraq, an improvised explosive attack in an army base killed two
soldiers and injured another 20. (end)
