Argentina''s senate chief hails ties with Kuwait

BUENOS AIRES, Sept 7 (KUNA) -- Argentina's Senate President Julio Cobos on Wednesday applauded Argentinean-Kuwaiti ties, stressing his country's keenness on strengthening these relations in all fields.
These remarks were made by Cobos upon receiving here the fourth Kuwaiti-Argentinean Parliamentary Friendship Group delegation to Argentina, headed by MP Dr. Massouma Al-Mubarak and the membership of MPs Dr. Asseel Al-Awadi, Al-Sayed Hussein Qallaf and Dr. Rola Dashti.
Argentinean President Cristina Elizabeth Fernandez was keen on developing and bolstering relations with Kuwait during her visit to the Gulf Arab nation last July, Cobos said.
"Argentina has been working to upgrade relations with Kuwait since 1996, but so far the business ties still modest," Cobos added, noting that trade exchange between the two countries reached its peak in 2004.
The Argentinean official also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange.
"The long distance between us may be a barrier, but culture exchange facilitates communication between us and helps develop ties." For her part, Massouma thanked Senate President Cobos for his good reception of the Kuwaiti delegation.
"This welcoming reception comes in at a difficult time as all in Argentina are preoccupied with the approaching parliamentary elections." Dr. Massouma said the main objective of the visit was "to deepen relations, particularly at the level of public diplomacy and enhance coordination of stances within the Inter-Parliamentary Union to better serve our countries and democracy in the world." "The Kuwaiti delegation is proud of the relationship between the two countries and seeks to develop it," she said.
Dr. Massouma described Argentinean President's recent visit to Kuwait as very successful.
She also expressed gratitude for Argentina's stance during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
"We want to express our great appreciation to Argentina for her support to Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion."(end) ms.tb.ibi KUNA 071838 Sep 11NNNN
