RAMALLAH, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas affirmed
that he was approaching the United Nations so as to take part in establishing
a peaceful and just situation instead of violence and oppression in the
occupied lands with the objective to end the longest occupation in modern
history.
To get the recognition from the UN of a Palestine state is not to isolate
Israel or to face the United States, but to acheive the Palestinian dream of a
Palestinian State with full sovereignty, Abbas said.
Abbas added in a speech he addressed at the Third Imams and preachers
Summit held in Al-Beira town on Saturday, that Palestinians seek their states'
recognition of occupied lands that form 22 percent of historic Palestine.
He affirmed Palestinians' refusal to recognize Israel as an exclusively
Jewish state, stressing that the nature of the Israeli state is not a
Palestinian concern.
As for the reconciliation, Abbas stressed it is a Palestinian priority due
to its importance for national unity, which is crucial as Palestinians
approach the UN for recognition.(end)
