SANAA, July 15 (KUNA) -- A senior security officer and two of his
bodyguards were killed in an ambush set by opposition tribal militants in
central Yemen on Friday, the defense ministry said.
Colonel Ahmad Razaz, director of a security department in northern Taiz,
central Yemen, and two of his bodyguards were killed in the ambush while three
other bodyguards were injured, the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry accused an armed group with links to the opposition Joint
Meetings Party (JMP) for the killing of the security personnel. The attackers
fled the scene.
The attack took place amidst rising tension between government forces and
opposition militants in Taiz and surrounding areas. (end)
