BAGHDAD, July 10 (KUNA) -- A US soldier was killed in southern Iraq, the
American army said in a statement on Sunday, failing to provide further
details.
The casualty coincided with new US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta's visit
to Baghdad, his first since assuming post. Panetta is expected to mainly
discuss status of remaining US troops in the country with Iraqi officials.
Two days ago, the US army announced the deaths of two service members while
conducting operations in central Iraq, according to a statement.
The latest deaths come after 14 US soldiers were killed in attacks in June,
the deadliest month for American military fatalities since 2008.
The latest deaths bring the full number of American military casualties in
Iraq since 2003 to 4,472. (end)
