SARAJEVO, July 9 (KUNA) -- Commander of the European Union's Peacekeeping
Force in Bosnia (EUFOR) Maj. Gen. Bernhard Bair hailed Saturday the role
played by Kuwait through its embassy in Sarajevo in achieving the peaceful
coexistence among the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Maj. Gen. Bair added that EUFOR is looking forward to boosting the joint
cooperation with the Kuwaiti embassy in Sarajevo through various social and
cultural activities in what comes within the framework of the peaceful mission
of EUFOR in the country, and its endeavors on promoting peace there.
Further, Maj. Gen. Bair made clear, in an exclusive interview with KUNA
following meeting Kuwaiti ambassador to Bosnia Mohammad Fadhel Khalaf with
whom he exchanged souvenirs at the headquarters of the Kuwaiti embassy, that
he takes pride in working in the civilian field along with the Kuwaiti embassy
as the representative of the State of Kuwait which is known by its efforts on
consolidating world peace and security.
Moreover, Maj. Gen. Bair revealed that his visit to the embassy of the
State of Kuwait, the first of its kind by an international official to the
embassy of Arab country in Bosnia and Herzegovina, left a good impression on
him, pointing out the importance of the Kuwaiti embassy's engagement with
various EUFOR programs aiming at rehabilitating the war victims, and
assimilating them into the Bosnian society.
Taking a different tack, Maj. Gen. Bair asserted that Bosnia and
Herzegovina has become today a stable and secure state, a thing which will
directly contribute to creating favorable conditions for achieving the
economic development sought by the Bosnian government in the same manner like
advanced European countries.
Maj. Gen. Bair denied that EUFOR has recently faced any challenge within
its peacekeeping mission in accordance with Dayton Peace Agreement signed in
1995, noting that the work of EUFOR is much easier now than before.
Finally, Maj. Gen. Bair extended thanks to ambassador Khalaf for the role
played by the Kuwaiti embassy through various services accorded to all walks
of life in the multi-ethnic Bosnian society in what furthered the stability of
Bosnia and Herzegovina. (end)
