PARIS, June 22 (KUNA) -- France on Wednesday called on the political
leaders in Somalia to end in-fighting and move forward with badly-needed
institutional reforms that could end decades long conflicts in that country.
"While the Somali population is faced with the scourge of war, forced
displacements and drought, it is time for the transition institutions to get
over their internal quarrels and demonstrate their credibility by acting in a
responsible manner in the service of Somalis, whose needs are immense," the
French Foreign Ministry said.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero indicated that his government had
taken note of the resignation of Somali Prime Minister Mohammed Abdullahi
Mohammed and he said this was in conformity with agreements.
"Beyond this resignation, the transition institutions must, as requested by
the Security Council, rapidly commit to the definition and implementation of a
Road Map to accelerate reforms," Valero stated.
He said that the transition authorities must also move forward on the
"constitutional process and national reconciliation," while working with the
UN Special Representative for Somalia, the African Union and the
Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD). (end)
