NEW DELHI, June 4 (KUNA) -- Heavily armed militants belonging to terrorist
groups NDFB (National Democratic Front of Bodoland) and GNLA (Garo National
Liberation Army) killed three policemen and injured two, when they ambushed a
security team in India's north-eastern state of Meghalaya, Saturday.
The incident took place in the state's East Garo Hills district. After
attacking the cops, the militants took away their weapons, reported the Press
Trust of India (PTI).
According to the report, the five cops were conducting anti-dacoity rounds.
While they were returning back, they were tipped off that a dacoity was going
on nearby. While on the lookout for the dacoits, around ten militants
surrounded them and fired with AK rifles.
The militants snatched an AK rifle, one INSAS (Indian Small Arms System)
rifle, a carbine, three bullet proof jackets and some ammunition from the
patrol party.
Meanwhile, additional police force and an Army team have been rushed to the
area for combing operations after the incident. (end)
