SANAA, April 9 (KUNA) -- At least 300 anti-government protesters were
injured or suffered suffocation when the Yemeni security forces fired rubber
bullets and tear gas canisters to disperse a demonstration at Tagheer Square,
downtown Sanaa, Saturday evening.
The field hospital at the site is battling to offer first aid to the big
numbers of injured people some of who are in critical conditions, medical
sources said.
The security forces and plain-clothes persons attacked the demonstrators
from the southern entrance of the square a few hours ago, using rubber bullets
and tear gas, witnesses say.
Earlier today a man was killed and 81 others were injured when the Yemeni
police forces backed by the Republican Guards used force to quell a
demonstration in the central city of Ta'iz.
More than 15 cities across the country have been witnessing continuous
protests against the rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh since early
February; more than 340 were killed and 6,000 others were injured during the
unrest. (pickup previous)
