KUWAIT, March 22 (KUNA) -- Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait Sheikh
Salem Abdel Aziz Al-Sabah is due to take part in the tenth Banking Conference
of the GCC countries due in Qatar on March 23-24.
The CBK said in a statement on Tuesday that the two-day conference, themed,
"The GCC banking sector and its role in development in light of current
regional events," would be sponsored by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabr Al-Thani.
It is expected to witness deliberations and discussions among the
participants regarding challenges facing the Gulf finance markets and policies
for dealing with these challenges, prospects for the GCC monetary union and
impact of the international financial crisis on the banking sector in the GCC
countries.
Sheikh Salem is due to take part in the final sessions, specialized for the
governors of the central banks and monetary institutions in the member states
of the council.
Moreover, he is due to head a CBK delegation at the 8th meeting of the
monetary management of the GCC Monetary Council, that groups the governors of
the central banks, due on March 24.
The council holds six meetings per year, according to its statute, that
went effect on March 27, 2010, after the GCC states endorsed the treaty of the
monetary union, effected as of February 27, 2010. (end)
