Man stands trial in Scotland on terror charges

LONDON, March 14 (KUNA) -- A man arrested in connection with the Stockholm suicide bombing appeared in court Monday facing charges under the Terrorism Act, police said. Ezedden Khalid Ahmed Al Khaledi, 30, appeared at a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court in Scotland. He faced charges under Sections 15, 16 and 17 of the Terrorism Act 2000, which relate to using money or property for terrorist purposes and fundraising. He was also charged under Sections 24 and 106 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 and Section 25 of the Identity Cards Act 2006, as well as two fraud charges, the court was told. He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody. The case was continued for further examination. Al Khaledi was arrested at a block of flats in the Whiteinch area of Glasgow last Tuesday. Suicide bomber Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, 28, who studied at the University of Luton, outside London, blew himself up and injured two people in an attack in Stockholm's shopping district in December last year. Iraqi-born student Abdulwahab, who lived in Luton, apparently killed himself as he tried to set off a car bomb in a busy street. Abdulwahab travelled to Britain in 2001 and attended Luton University, which has since merged into the University of Bedfordshire, before graduating and marrying in 2004.
