BRUSSELS, Jan 21 (KUNA) -- The President of the Special Tribunal for
Lebanon (STL), Judge Antonio Cassese, announced Friday that he has set
February 7 as the day for pubic hearing of the appeals chamber in the Hariri
case at the Dutch city of the Hague.
The mandate of the STL, established in 2007, is to prosecute THOSE
responsible for the attack of February 14, 2005 resulting in the death of
former prime minister Rafic Hariri and in the death or injury of others.
The appeals chamber will hear the prosecutor and the Head of Defence Office
in a public session without prejudging the right of any accused, said Cassese
in a statement.
The President of the STL said there is need for a comprehensive discussion
of the issues raised by the pre-trial judge.
The questions raised by the pre-trial judge touched upon the following five
areas: notion of terrorist acts, notion of conspiracy, constitutive elements
of intentional homicide, modes of responsibility and cumulative charging and
plurality of offences. (end)
