BRUSSELS, Jan 21 (KUNA) -- The President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), Judge Antonio Cassese, announced Friday that he has set February 7 as the day for pubic hearing of the appeals chamber in the Hariri case at the Dutch city of the Hague.
The mandate of the STL, established in 2007, is to prosecute THOSE responsible for the attack of February 14, 2005 resulting in the death of former prime minister Rafic Hariri and in the death or injury of others.
The appeals chamber will hear the prosecutor and the Head of Defence Office in a public session without prejudging the right of any accused, said Cassese in a statement.
The President of the STL said there is need for a comprehensive discussion of the issues raised by the pre-trial judge.
The questions raised by the pre-trial judge touched upon the following five areas: notion of terrorist acts, notion of conspiracy, constitutive elements of intentional homicide, modes of responsibility and cumulative charging and plurality of offences. (end) nk.hb KUNA 212138 Jan 11NNNN
