RAMALLAH, Jan 21 (KUNA) -- Fierce clashes erupted on Friday in Silwan
neighborhood of the occupied holy city of Jerusalem between young Palestinians
and the Israeli army.
Witnesses said that the Israeli army stormed the neighborhood and began
firing a barrage of rubber bullets and tear gas canisters towards the youths
who hit back with stones.
The witnesses added that the raid coincided with the end of Friday prayers
in a protest tent erected in the town. No injuries were reported.
A number of Palestinian figures tool part in today's Friday prayers in the
protest tent in Silwan.
The tent was erected several months ago in the neighborhood to protest the
Israeli policy of home demolitions and the displacement of the Arab population
in order to Judaize the neighborhood and complete the Biblical Garden. (end).
