JEDDAH, Jan 11 (KUNA) -- Deputy Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince
Sultan bin Abdulaziz layed here on Tuesday the foundation stone for King
Abdulaziz International Airport project.

Ruhaimi, affirmed that new airport will be one of the highlights of the
cultural development taking place in Saudi Arabia, adding in his speech
addressed on the ocassion that it is a mirror that reflects the interest in
civil aviation sector and Saudi airports.
Ruhaimi added that the project is fully capable with a state-of-the-art
facility, wich leads to a profitable operation of new terminal. He said that
it will accommodate future traffic growth efficiently and comfortably, as well
as the development into an International Passenger and Cargo Hub which is able
to cater for new aircraft including the A380 which makes it an important and
strategic stop that links the East and the West.
It also enhances commercial opportunities and services, he added.
The project will support the economic structure of the Makkah Region
through the provision of a large number of investment opportunities for the
private sector as well as job opportunities for citizens, Ruhaimi confirmed.
Prince Sultan recently signed the development plans (phase 1) of the
airport in order for it to raise the airport's capacity to 30 million
passengers annually.
Both contracts signed by Prince Sultan are valued of SR 27 billion and
other SR 111 million won by the Bin Laden Group, after a competition with
other specialized Saudi companies on the development of the airport project,
with an implementation period of 36 months. (end)
