BAGHDAD, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- A senior officer from the Iraqi Ministry of
Interior was killed here Saturday, 200 metres away from a checkpoint near the
Ministry of Finance, at the entrance of Muhammed Al-Qassem highway.
An Iraqi police source told KUNA, that the incident, the first of its kind
at the turn of 2011, took place when unknown gunmen shot dead with machine
guns Lieutenant Colonel. Ehsan Fadel, supervisor of the National Center for
Contacts and Operations at the Ministry of Interior, while he was driving on
Muhammed Al-Qassem Highway in what led to his death on the spot.
The source said that the incident took place about 200 metres away from an
Iraqi army checkpoint that protects the Ministry of Finance at the entrance of
Muhammed Al-Qassem Highway, though the gunmen fled the scene following the
assassination.
Police cordoned off the scene, while a part of the highway was closed off
till preliminary investigations are closed, and the pick-up truck of the
officer are pulled off the road. (end)
