CAIRO, Dec 15 (KUNA) -- The Arab peace initiative committee decided here
Wednesday that the Arabs would not resume talks with Israel owing to the
latter's recalcitrance and illegal practices in the occupied Palestinian
territories, as well as US failure to give talks a push.
The committee said in a final communiqu{ at the wrapping-up of its
extraordinary meeting that peace negotiations would not be re-launched unless
there was an earnest offer that could ensure an end to the Arab-Israeli
conflict.
It called on the US to "frankly" recognize a Palestinian state to be
founded on the pre-1967 borders.
It also held Israel alone fully responsible for the current deadlock of the
Middle East peace process, which was given a new life in Washington early
September, by virtue of its insistence on continuing its settlement activities.
However, the committee greatly appreciated Brazil and Argentina for voicing
readiness to recognize a Palestinian state on the basis of the pred-1967
borders, urging more countries to follow suit.
It also spoke highly of the European Union (EU) for having recently blasted
Israeli practices in Jerusalem and other occupied Palestinian territories as
illegal. (pick up previous)
