RIYADH, Oct 25 (KUNA) -- GCC Secretary General Abdul Rahman Al-Attiah
condemned on Monday a decision by the Israeli Ministerial Committee on
Legislation "to add Jerusalem to the new map of national priority zones."
Such an Israeli conduct constitutes a new move on the path of judaizing the
holy city and reinforcing settlements in it through the continuous relocation
of the Palestinian natives, Al-Attiah stated.
Tel Aviv is seeking to create a demographic status quo in the Palestinian
territories, said the chief of the six-state council.
Jerusalem has been and will remain an Arab-Islamic-human city for it is a
sacred land, he said, urging the world to take a firm stance vis a vis the
Israeli schemes.
On Sunday, the Israeli news network Haaretz reported the Israeli decision,
saying it would ensure "a greater level of national investment in the capital
in a number of areas, including residential construction. The proposal in
large part was aimed to combat the flight of young Jerusalemites unable to
find affordable residence in the city."
The new status would also secure a national development budget for the
city, which would give some public spaces a discount or exemption from
property taxes, according to Haarez, adding that the plan won an overwhelming
majority from members of Knesset. (end)
