Arab Parliament mulls regional hot issues - Al-Deqbasi

By Talal Al-Kayed (with photos) DAMASCUS, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- The second ordinary session of the Arab Interior Parliament (AIP) which opened here earlier Sunday gains additional significance as it discusses hot regional issues, Kuwaiti MP Ali Al-Deqbasi said.
"Members of the AIP committees on foreign, political, national security, social, economic and financial, legislative and legal, human rights, and women and youths affairs are discussing a range of regional hot issues of common Arab interest," he told KUNA.
"The panelists focus on inter-Arab trade and investment exchanges and the quest for economic integration as well as the recently resumed Palestinian-Israeli direct peace talks.
The political committee debates the latest developments of the Middle East peace process, the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the inter-Palestinian reconciliation.
It is also discussing the Iranian occupation of three UAE islands in the Arabian Gulf as well as the situations in Iraq, Sudan, Yemen and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, he pointed out.
"On top of the agenda of the legislative and legal affairs committee are the questions of brain drain which impacts negatively on development in the Arab countries, the growing numbers of Arab immigrants, and the suffering of the Palestinian and Iraqi refugees," Al-Deqbasi revealed.
The conferees are mulling the arrangements for an array of symposia on investment promotion, immigration, desertification, food security and refugees to be organized in collaboration with the Arab League.
"We, aware that a great part of the Arab capital goes to foreign destinations, lobby for legislations to protect mutual investments and encourage Arab investors to do business inside the Arab world with a view to creating new jobs and reviving our economies.
"The AIP is striving to become a high-powered decision-making body unlike many other Arab mechanisms," Al-Deqbasi disclosed.
The Arab MPs will hold a plenary meeting on Tuesday at the Syrian People's Assembly to approve the final recommendations of the three-day gathering. (pickup previous) tk.gb KUNA 262023 Sep 10NNNN
