TEHRAN, Sept 22 (KUNA) -- The governer of West Azarbaijan Province, Vahid
Jalalzadeh, announced here on Wednesday the increase of the death toll from
Mahabad's explosion which took place earlier in the day to 10, and 35 others
wounded.
He said that most casualities are women and children.
Jalalzadeh told Iranian official Television that the attack in Mahabad city
had been carried out by opponents of the Islamic revolution. He added that the
initial indication was that the explosion that took place at 10:10 a.m. local
time had foreign hands into it.
The incident had to have been carried out with the support of foreign
countries that support terrorist groups and groups that are against the
revolution such as elements of The People's Mojahedin of Iran (MKO), he said.
The television station showed scenes of the explosion, as well as
interviews with some of the injured.
Earlier today, Iran was jolted by an explosion that occurred in Mahabad
near the site of a military parade of units of armed forces which was held to
commemorate the Sacred Defense Week. (end)
