WASHINGTON, Sept 15 (KUNA) -- A travel warning issued by the State
Department on Wednesday to Jordans Aqaba region will not pose a threat to
Secretary of State Hillary Clintons upcoming visit with King Abdullah II,
according to an agency spokesman.
The U.S. is working with Jordanian officials on security concerns that
prompted the State Department to issue a travel warning for the Red Sea
coastal area that borders Israel, according to State Department spokesman
Philip Crowley.
"We issued the warden message based on information that we have. First and
foremost, our concerns are about the welfare of our citizens," Crowley said in
a briefing.
Crowley told reporters that while the U.S. has "taken appropriate security
measures" and has alerted the American community in Jordan and Israel as well,
"We dont think this will influence the Secretarys visit to Jordan tomorrow
in any way".
He added that "obviously well work with Jordan to sort through the threat
information".
The travel warning will last 48 hours, and was put in place the day after
Palestinian and Israeli leaders returned from the second round of peace talks
on the Egyptian resort town of Sharm Al-Sheikh. (end)
