Five civilians killed, 20 wounded in clashes with Indonesian police

KUALA LAMPR, Sept 1 (KUNA) - Five indonesian civilians were killed and 20 others were wounded in clashes with the police late last night, police sources said.
The clashes came after an attack on a police station in the city of Palu on the island of Sulawesi following the death of a detainee.
A police official told reporters that the police fired on demonstrators, killing five and wounding 20 others.
He said that protestors hurled bombs and explosives at the station and burned motorcycles, forcing the police to fire at them.
He noted that the outrage followed the killing of a detainee at the station last Monday, pointing out 300 troops would be sent to the station.
For his part, Sulawesi police chief Amin Saleh condemned the actions of the local police and said an investigation would be conducted into the events. (end) aab.aj KUNA 011213 Sep 10NNNN
