MOSCOW, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said
Monday evening its agents shot dead Ilez Gardanov, the rebel reader in
Russia's southern mainly Muslim republic of Ingushetia.
Acting on accurate intelligence information, the security services
identified four militants riding a bus on their way to carry out a "terrorist
operation," Russia's Vesti TV channel reported citing FSB sources.
The militants started opening fire at the security men as they approached a
checkpoint outside Nazran city in Ingushetia, which triggered a fierce
fighting.
All the four attackers including Gardanov, who has been wanted for a chain
of terrorist operations in northern Caucasus, were killed in the fighting
while the security services suffered no casualties, according to the report.
