ISTANBUL, July 26 (KUNA) -- Six Turkish soldiers were seriously injured in
a landmine blast in Lice town, close to Diyar Beker, southeastern Turkey,
local security sources reported.
The daily 'Huriyyet' said on its website that the bomb was detonated as the
army was sweeping the area in search of Kurdish Labor Party (PKK) militants.
It quoted the sources as accusing the PKK militants of the attack, where
the confrontations with the army has been escalating during the last few weeks.
Clashes between the PKK and the Turksih army resulted in the death of a
number of Turkish soldiers in the mountain border area with Iraq.
Ankara says that thousands of the PKK rebels had formed a stronghold in
northern Iraq, where they get weapons and bombs to launch attacks across the
borders on Turkey. The Turkish army has been launching a number of attacks
against the PKK for several weeks. (end)
