WASHINGTON, June 21 (KUNA) -- Officials have lifted a lockdown at a Navy
base in Lakehurst, in the state of New Jersey, early morning on Monday,
following a closure that took place for reported security reasons.
A statement issued by the base officials indicated "the 87th Security
Forces Squadron responded to simultaneous incidents around 9:30 a.m. Monday",
and affirmed "no personnel were in danger". The statement did not say what the
incidents were.
CBS News reports that the base lockdown after a FedEx truck driver entering
the base was found with a handgun. The lockdown lasted an hour and kept
traffic from getting into or out of the base.
Media reports said that the FedEx driver was taken into custody, and no
shots were fired.
A second incident reportedly occurred at a non-commercial gate, though
there's no word as to what happened at that gate. (end)
