Special task force seizes what is thought to be "largest" arms'' stash in Baghdad - sources

BAGHDAD, June 19 (KUNA) -- A special task force managed to seize what is thought to be the largest arms' stash in the capital Baghdad, it was announced here Saturday.
The force, comprising of the army and federal police, stormed the warehouse and seized large quantities of light and heavy arms, in addition to materials used in making local-made bombs and explosive belts, security sources, which preferred anonymity, told KUNA.
The warehouse, located in Al-Dawanem area of Al-Shula neighborhood western Baghdad also contained machine guns, RPGs, mortar shells, anti-tank projectiles, large quantities of C-4 and TNT, as well as bombs, detonators and rifles with silencers and night-vision installed on them, the sources pointed out.
After the scene was cordoned off, the arms' seized were uploaded to trucks and transferred to a secure location, it said.
Two men, Ali Nafil Kammash and Sami Attiya, were arrested during the operation, which took place according to intelligence reports, the sources noted without saying if the warehouse belonged to al-Qaeda or any other terrorist group.
The seizure is seen as the first major response to a number of security unrests in Baghdad, most recent of which was the heist on Central Bank of Iraq, which resulted in killing 18 and injuring some 50 more. (end) mhg.hb KUNA 192300 Jun 10NNNN
