ISTANBUL, June 19 (KUNA) -- Turkey's military said on Saturday that is has
launched an air raid targeting Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rebel hideouts
in northern Iraq.
A statement by Turkish Chief of Staff Office said that the air raid
resulted in the demise of 12 rebels and was in response to PKK's attack on a
Turkish military site south east of Turkey.
Last night, Kurdish rebels killed eight Turkish soldiers in an attack on an
army post and a mine explosion near the border with Iraq.
PKK claimed responsibility for the attack.
In recent weeks, tension has been increasing on northern Iraqi borders,
where many Kurds live, particularly with warm weather coming in which makes
infiltration become easier for PKK rebels. (end)
