BAGHDAD, June 18 (KUNA) -- Unknown gunmen killed seven Iraqi soldiers and
wounded another in an attack on a military checkpoint in Al-Qa'im town, near
the borders with Syria Friday evening.
The gunmen driving two pickups attacked the checkpoint in Area 90, Al-Qa'im
town in the eastern Governorate of Al-Anbar and engaged with the soldiers
manning the post, a police source told KUNA here.
They killed seven servicemen and wounded another seriously, the source
said, noting that the condition of the soldier who was rushed to a nearby
hospital is life-threatening.
The attackers used sharp tools to dismember the bodies of the victims and
set the checkpoint afire before fleeing to an unknown destination, he added.
In a related development four Iraqi soldiers were killed and six others
were injured in a spate of roadside bombs in the restive town located some 400
km northwest Baghdad. (end)
