BAGHDAD, June 6 (KUNA) -- A suicide bomber detonated a car targeting
Al-Amel Area Police in southwest Baghdad Sunday morning leaving four policemen
dead and ten others injured at least.
A police source told KUNA the bomber detonated his car as he tried to drive
through into the center leaving 14 policemen dead and injured according to an
initial toll.
This is the first attack of its kind since authorities announced the
killing and capture of leading Qaeda figures including Abu Omar Al-Baghdadi
and Abu Ayyoub Al-Masri, as well as so called Wali of Baghdad Manaf Al-Rawi.
The blast caused serious damage to the building and damaged four police
vehicles and civilian vehicles in the area.
The source said the attacker had tried to enter the police intersection
near Al-Doura Area.
The source also said the blast caused a vehicle used to transport police
recruits to catch fire, without specifying if anyone was inside the vehicle at
the time.
The police is currently cordoning the scene and the victims had been taken
to Yarmouk Hospital, western Baghdad.(end)
