ISTANBUL, May 7 (KUNA) -- A Turkish soldier was killed, while two others
were injured in armed clashes with the militants of the banned Kurdistan
Workers' Party (PKK) southeastern Turkey on Friday.
The clashes, which took place in Hakkari province, initiated when a
military patrol engaged with a group of PKK members in the town of Yuksekova,
Turkish Army Staff Command said on its internet site.
The clashes also led to eliminating 15 PKK elements, before the army
tightly cordoned the area, the Command pointed out, adding that the injured
soldiers were airlifted to the nearest military hospital for treatment.
The clash is yet another in a series of skirmishes, mostly taking place in
the country's southeastern terrains between the army and separatists, who have
been, for the last 15 years, fighting for an autonomous ruling. Some 45,000
people were killed from the warring standoff so far. (end)
