ISLAMABAD, April 30 (KUNA) -- Police on Friday in a Pakistani Southwestern
Baluchistan province claimed to have arrested at least ninety suspects in a
crackdown, launched after the killing of a female professor.
Meanwhile, another militant group attacked three girls with acid for
leaving their house alone.
Police have been carrying out crackdown since the killing of a female
professor of Baluchistan University in Quetta and several adjoining areas.
Police sources told KUNA that so far near ninety suspects have been rounded
up.
The Baluch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed killing the professor in what they
said that it was to avenge the killing of Baluch women in illegal police
detention. The victim professor was a Punjabi and Baluch nationalists accuse
Punjabis for depriving their province of countrys economic and political
share.
Meanwhile, a new nationalist militant group on Kalat district of the
province three acid at three sisters of ages between 12 and 18 for leaving
their house premises without any male relative.
Two activists of Baluch Ghairut Mund (BGM) group, riding a motorbike,
hurled acid at thre three girls and escaped from the scene. A local police
officer, Zubair Jamil, told media that the girls have been admitted in the
hospital and are said to be in stable condition. He said police has launched
investigations to arrest the culprit.
This is the third such incident reported in the area in last two weeks. The
BGM has claimed responsibility for all the attacks. However, throwing acid on
females is quite common in several rural areas of Pakistan. Females, defying
village traditions, aspiring for higher education and trying to marry of their
own consent, usually fall pray to such ruthless incidents. (end).
