MOSCOW, April 19 (KUNA) -- Two people died and another 15 were injured in
acts of violence across Kyrgyzstan's capital, Bishkek, on Monday.
Russian news agency Interfax quoted Kyrgyz security sources as saying that
violent clashes occurred in one of the suburbs located in Bishkek. The clashes
were related to lands that had been seized unlawfully following the fall of
the previous regime.
The incidents involved attacks by Kyrgyz natives on fellow Kyrgyz natives
of Turkic origin, whose houses were burnt down.
Security and military forces arrived in the area and used force in putting
an end to the clashes, arresting around 50 people who had allegedly taken part
in the violence.
Meanwhile, Russian inhabitants of Bishkek have complained of being targeted
by armed groups in the area, while the Russian foreign ministry has warned
Kyrgyz authorities of providing adequate protection for their nationals. (end)
