BAGHDAD, March 6 (KUNA) -- Three people were killed and 54 others were
wounded in the booby-trapped car explosion that targeted a bus carrying
Iranian pilgrims in Najaf earlier Saturday, security and medical sources
confirmed.
Head of the city's media directorate, Salem Nema, told reporters that the
blast killed two Iranians and an Iraq, adding that the wounded included 17
Iraqis and 37 Iranians.
Meanwhile, a police officer, requesting anonymity, said that women and
children were among the victims.
The blast took place at 8:45 a.m. (local time) close to Imam Ali Shrine in
the heart of Najaf, southern Iraq.
Security has been beefed up, and check points have been set up at the
northern and southern entrances to the city. (pickup previous)
