GAZA, March 3 (KUNA) -- The Israeli Army said that one of its military
sites in northern Ramallah city in the West Bank came under heavy shooting,
adding that the attack did not lead to any injuries.
A spokesman of the Army told Radio Israel Wednesday morning that
Palestinian militants opened fire at the military site Tuesday evening from
inside a car.
The issue is serious as the area did not witness any attack since 2003, he
added. The attack was not announced on Tuesday "for security reasons", he
pointed out.
Meanwhile, Fatah's military wing, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, claimed
responsibility for the shooting.
It said in a press release that the attack came as response to the decision
of the "Zionist government" to declare Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque and Al-Haram
Al-Ibrahimi as historic Jewish sites.
Early on Wednesday, Israeli forces backed up with tanks and bulldozers
intruded in Al-Maghazi Palestinian refugee camp in central Gaza Strip.
Palestinian sources told KUNA here that the forces broke in with cover of
heavy shooting, aimed at Palestinian homes and agricultural areas. The
shooting did not cause any injuries, but damaged some homes, they said.
Israeli bulldozers destroyed agricultural areas and Apache helicopters and
surveillance aircraft flew over the camp, they added.
In the meantime, Israeli military boats opened heavy machinegun fire
against dozens of Palestinian fishermen sailing off the coasts of Al-Sudaniya
area in Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources told KUNA.
No casualties were reported, but the fishermen were forced to head back to
shore to avoid injury, they added.
Israeli attacks had intensified of late and killed and injured several
Palestinians in Gaza Strip.(end)
