KABUL, Nov 8 (KUNA) -- An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)
soldier and a US soldier were killed in western Afghanistan, while the foreign
troops claimed killing "several" Taliban in the volatile southern zone of the
country.
An ISAF spokesperson said one US soldier was killed in a militant attack in
western Afghanistan. This is the same zone where two US soldiers had gone
missing three days ago.
However, the spokesperson clarified the killing of this soldier was not
related to the search for the missing soldiers.
The second soldier, who was from the NATO-led ISAF troops, was killed in a
roadside bomb blast in southern Afghanistan. His name and nationality were not
made public.
The international troops also claimed killing "several" militants in
Kandahar province, the former stronghold of Taliban in the Pashtun-dominated
southern zone of the country.
The statement did not mention the exact number, but said some militants
were killed and a group of suspected militants were arrested on charges of
supporting the Taliban suicide bombing and roadside attacks on foreign and
Afghan soldiers as well as civilians. (end)
