BAGHDAD, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- Iraq has denied news reports that it had handed
over security responsibilities in Baghdad back to US forces, after recent
bombings in the capital that killed and injured dozens, dubbed "Bloody
Wednesday."
A statement by the Iraqi Ministry of Defence quoted Minister Mohammed
Jassim Al-Obaidi on Monday, as denying claims made by international press by
stating that "these are rumours that have no truth," and that the ministry is
committed to the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) which states the withdrawal
of US forces from all Iraqi cities and provinces.
The minister added that Iraqi forces are improving day-by-day and have
reached "excellent levels."
He also said that security operations are only carried out after thorough
revision and authorization by the ministry. (end)
