KABUL, Sept 22 (KUNA) -- Two International Security Assistance Force
soldiers were killed as the multinational force was observing the United
Nations' International Day of Peace in Afghanistan.
A statement issued by the ISAF headquarters here on Tuesday said two of its
soldiers were killed in separate explosions caused by landmines in southern
Afghanistan on September 21.
One of the two soldiers was from the United States while nationality of the
other was not disclosed for policy reasons.
The soldiers died on the day when the multinational force was observing the
UN International Day of Peace in Afghanistan.
A separate statement said the ISAF did not conduct any offensive in support
of the peace day on September 21. However, several insurgent attacks in
southern and eastern Afghanistan required ISAF personnel to assist Afghan
National Security Forces in defensive operations to protect the Afghan public
from insurgent attacks.
In these incidents, several insurgents were killed while attacking Afghan
forces, said the statement. (end)
