BEIRUT, Sept 5 (KUNA) -- The army arrested Saturday 11 suspects involved in
clashes in the Hermel and Tripoli areas north of Lebanon yesterday.
An army statement said that the suspects were involved in a faimly feud
which resulted in the death of three individuals and the injuries of some
others.
The army would continue its efforts to maintain security and would bring
those involved in the clashes to justice, concluded the statement.
Tripoli, Lebanon's second largest city, is located some 80 kilometers north
of Beirut. Many people in the city possess guns.
Hermel is a rugged mountainous region, inhabited by influential armed
clans, many notorious for carrying out vendettas.
Government troops repeatedly carry out campaigns against cultivation of
poppies in the remote farming area. (end)
