ISLAMABAD, Aug 28 (KUNA) -- Pakistani security forces Friday claimed
arresting at least twelve Al-Qaeda suspects of foreign origin in an eastern
district and a Taliban commander in southern city, said officials.
Police arrested the twelve foreign Al-Qaeda suspects in Dera Ghazi Khan
district while they were trying to enter into eastern Punjab province on
illegal travel documents, said district police chief Rizwan Baig.
Talking to newsmen, he said that all the arrested militants are of
different foreign nationalities.
Police sources told KUNA that the arrested suspects included two Swiss
nationals as well as Uzbeks and Tajiks.
Meanwhile, police in Karachi port city claimed to have arrested a Taliban
commander, who had fled the military operation in Swat and was hiding in the
city.
Raja Umer, Superintendent Police (SP), talking to newsmen, said that police
conducted raid on suspected militant hideouts in Sultan Abad town of the city.
He said there was a shootout, adding, three militants managed to escape but
police arrested the wanted Taliban commander.
He identified him as Ayaz alias Abu Kashif and said that he was arrested in
possession of weapons and hand-grenades. (end)
