BAGHDAD, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Ministry of Health confirmed on Sunday the
first mortality as a result of the swine flu in the southern Najaf
governorate. Director of the Public Health Department Dr. Ihsan
Jaafar said in a statement that medical examinations conducted on the
deceased, an Iraqi girl, confirmed she died as a result of the swine flu virus.
A medical team rushed to the scene to become acquainted with the incident,
he added.
The number of confirmed swine flue cases in Iraq now stands at 67, 39 of
whom belonged to the multi-national forces personnel.
Meanwhile, Director of public health at Al-Najaf province Rashwan Al-Kindi
had earlier announced the death of a 20-year-old girl as a result of the swine
flue virus. (end)
