ISTANBUL, July 18 (KUNA) -- Three Kurdish insurgents were killed in armed
confrontations with the Turkish army southern Turkey, Turkish military sources
said Saturday.
The incident took place at Hatay province near the Syrian borders after
members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) tried to cross over the borders,
Turkish Joint Chiefdom of Staff said.
The PKK has been fighting the Turkish authorities for an antonymous Kurdish
state since 1984, and 40,000 people were killed since then.
The Turkish army launched a campaign against the PKK in December and
targeted their hideouts in southern Iraq. (end)
