By Ahmad Buqas (with photos) KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (KUNA) -- Malaysia aims to be a center for launching Islamic fashion to the Islamic world in particular and the whole world in general through hosting specialized fashion shows.
Malaysia's First Lady and the Prime Minister's wife Rosmah Mansor told KUNA, during a press conference held Sunday on the sidelines of the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival 2009, that her country aims to become a center for the Islamic fashion industry.
Islamic fashion shows held by Malaysian firms and organizations attract famous fashion designers from both the East and West, showing that Islamic fashion was for Muslims and non-Muslims.
She said such fashion shows aim at marketing Islamic fashion which is mostly based on Islamic art designs with Malaysian touches, stressing that these clothing are modest and fashionable.
On the sidelines of the grand sale festival, the Malaysian Tourism Ministry held an Islamic fashion show in which Malaysian, Arabic, and Turkish clothing for men and women were presented.
The Malaysian carnival, sponsored by Mansor, will conclude on August 31.
The carnival, which aims to attract more tourists, offers big discounts around Malaysia, in addition to leisure activities in all malls and traditional markets. (end) aab.ris KUNA 060920 Jul 09NNNN
