CAIRO, June 12 (KUNA) -- Egyptian authorities placed 12 passengers plus two
officers at Cairo's airport under quarantine after showing signs of the swine
flu virus, said the airport's Quarantine Director Dr. Hasan Shaban on Friday.
A feverish nine-year-old was placed under quarantine along with her family
of six who arrived from Jeddah on Saudi flight number 503, Shaban said.
Another nine-year-old child arriving from Dubai on the Egyptian flight
number 913 was isolated with her parents and three siblings after airport
officials confirmed that the child had a fever, he said, adding that the
family was transformed to Abbasiyah Hospital to undergo check-ups.
Meanwhile, two officers at Cairo airport were transferred to hospital after
catching a fever, he said.
He noted that the authorities have not taken further prevention measures
after World Health Organization (WHO) raised the swine flu alert to phase six.
People are wandering around the airports with their masks to avoid catching
the virus, while airport staff is avoiding unnecessary exposure.
According to a statement by the American University in Cairo, classes will
resume Monday at the after being suspended for a week after discovering cases
of swine flu at the university's dorm.
The Ministry of Health said that all the tests taken from the university
staff and students turned out negative, it said, adding that campus buildings
were sterilized. (end)
