BAGHDAD, May 11 (KUNA) -- Iraqi forces arrested a prominent member of
Al-Qaeda on Monday, during a series of search operations in the province of
Diyala, northeast of Baghdad.
In a short statement, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said its intelligence
personnel arrested, at dawn, a leading member of Al-Qaeda in the province.
However, the name of the arrestee was not disclosed, and the only
information made available was that the arrest took place before a planned
terrorist operation was executed.
A second wide-scale military operation is currently taking place in Diyala,
aimed at purging the province of members of Al-Qaeda and the former Baathist
regime. More than 150 terrorist have been apprehended so far, including
several female would-be suicide bombers. (end)
